History
Formed in 1840 from Sanilac County, Lapeer County and Saginaw County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Tuscola County was created in 1840 from Sanilac County (which was attached to Lapeer) and was initially not fully organized, instead attached to Saginaw for judicial purposes. In 1845, Tuscola gained territory from Lapeer, and by 1850 it was fully organized and detached from Saginaw. In 1859, Huron County was fully organized and detached from Tuscola.
