History
Formed in 1820 from Macomb County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Oakland County was created by Michigan Territory from Macomb County on March 28, 1820. Over the following decades, Oakland County lost territory as new counties were created from its land, including Lapeer, Shiawassee, and Washtenaw in 1822, and eventually Genesee in 1835.
