History

Formed in 1831 from Oakland County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Arenac County was created on March 2, 1831 from Oakland County but was not fully organized, and in 1836 it was attached to Saginaw County for judicial purposes. In 1857, Arenac County was eliminated when all its territory was used to create Bay County, but in 1883 it was re-created from Bay County with somewhat different boundaries.
