History

Formed in 1840 from Saginaw County, Michilimackinac County and Mackinac County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Ogemaw County was created in 1840 from non-county area attached to Saginaw, but was not fully organized and was attached to Michilimackinac (now Mackinac) for judicial purposes. Over the following decades, Ogemaw was attached to various counties for judicial and municipal purposes: Cheboygan in 1853, then Iosco in 1858. In 1867, Ogemaw lost all its territory to Iosco and was eliminated, but was re-created from Iosco in 1873 and fully organized in 1875.
