History
Formed in 1861 from Marquette County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Originally called Bleeker, the county was created in 1861 but not fully organized and was attached to Marquette County for judicial purposes. In 1863, Bleeker was renamed Menominee and became fully organized and independent. The county expanded through the 1870s and 1880s but lost territory to the creation of Iron County in 1885 and Dickinson County in 1891.
