History
Formed in 1831 from Michilimackinac County and Mackinac County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Oceana County was created from Michilimackinac County (now Mackinac County) in 1831, but was not fully organized at first and was attached to other counties for judicial purposes. It was attached to Kent County in 1837, then detached and attached to Ottawa County in 1840 after losing territory to the creation of Mecosta and Newaygo counties. Oceana was finally fully organized in 1855 after a small part reverted to Non-County Area 7, which was attached to Ottawa County.
