History

Formed in 1821 from Macomb County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

ST. Clair was created by Michigan Territory from Macomb in 1821. Over the following decades, ST. Clair lost territory to new counties and surrounding areas were attached for judicial purposes, including parts of Sanilac and Huron. By 1850, ST. Clair had largely reached its current boundaries after Huron was detached and attached to Sanilac for judicial and representative purposes.
