History
Formed in 1836 from Brown County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sheboygan County was created by the Wisconsin Territory from Brown County on December 7, 1836, but was not fully organized at the time and remained attached to Brown County for judicial purposes. On March 4, 1839, Sheboygan was organized for all purposes of county government, though it stayed attached to Brown County for judicial matters. The county became fully organized and detached from Brown County on May 1, 1846, and then became a county in the state of Wisconsin on May 29, 1848.
