History
Formed in 1825 from Pike County and Hancock County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Adams County was created on January 13, 1825, from Pike County and Non-County Area 3, with Hancock County attached for county purposes. Hancock County was fully organized and detached from Adams on August 3, 1829. Adams County lost territory to the creation of Marquette (later Highland, an extinct county) in 1843, and to Highland again in 1847, but regained all of Highland's territory on December 31, 1848, when Highland failed to become fully organized.
