History

Formed in 1825 from Pike County and Adams County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hancock County was created from Pike and Adams counties, initially not fully organized and attached to Adams for county purposes. It became fully organized and independent on August 3, 1829. In 1837, the county's boundaries were extended to the middle of the Mississippi River.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
