History

Formed in 1867 from Riley County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Jewell County was created on February 26, 1867, from non-county area attached to Riley County, though it was not fully organized at that time. The county was initially attached to Clay County for judicial purposes in 1867 and remained so through 1868, then became fully organized and detached from Clay County on July 14, 1870.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
