History
Formed in 1873 from Rooks County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Thomas County was created from Non-County Area 6 and Rooks County on March 20, 1873, but was not fully organized and was attached to Rooks for judicial purposes. It lost territory to Wallace County in 1879 before gaining it back in 1881. Thomas County was fully organized on October 8, 1885, when it was detached from Sheridan County. Sherman County was organized and detached from Thomas County on September 20, 1886.
