History
Formed in 1855 from Dorn County, Neosho County, Godfrey County, Seward County, Greenwood County, Hunter County, Wilson County, Woodson County, Marion County and Washington County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Allen County was created in 1855 from non-county area, named after William Allen, and was fully organized the following year. Between 1857 and 1865, Allen County underwent boundary adjustments, losing territory to newly organized counties including Neosho, Wilson, and others, though it gained some land back from Neosho in 1870.
