History

Formed in 1855 from Allen County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Dorn County was created on August 25, 1855 by Kansas Territory from non-county area, initially attached to Allen County for civil and military purposes. The county was renamed Neosho on June 3, 1861, the same year it became a county in the state of Kansas. Neosho was fully organized on November 20, 1864, detached from Allen County, and underwent several boundary adjustments with neighboring counties through 1870.
