History

Formed in 1867 from Marion County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Comanche County was created on February 26, 1867, from Marion County, named after the Comanche people, though it was not fully organized at its creation. For nearly two decades, the county was attached to neighboring counties for judicial purposes: Sumner, Reno, Pawnee, and Barber. It gained part of Kiowa County in 1875, which was eliminated at that time. Comanche County was fully organized on February 27, 1885, and briefly administered Clark and Meade counties for judicial purposes in 1885, though both were detached and fully organized within months.
