History
Formed in 1867 from Riley County and Osborn County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Osborne County was named after Vincent B. Osborne, though the county's original spelling of "Osborn" was never officially changed to "Osborne." After its creation from Riley County and the Osborn area in 1867, Osborne County was attached to other counties for judicial purposes—first to Ottawa in 1868, then to Mitchell in 1871—until it was fully organized and detached from Mitchell on September 12, 1871.
