History
Founded in 1855
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Created in 1855 by Kansas Territory as Calhoun County, it was renamed Jackson in 1859 in honor of Andrew Jackson. The county gained and lost land through boundary adjustments with neighboring counties Jefferson, Pottawatomie, Shawnee, and Brown over its first decade.
