History

Formed in 1868 from Ellis County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Gove County was created from non-county area in 1868 and initially attached to Ellis County for judicial purposes. Between 1879 and 1881, Gove gained and lost land to several neighboring counties including Sheridan, Lane, and Wallace. The county became fully organized and independent in 1886, when it was detached from Trego County.
