History

Formed in 1855 from McGee County and Cherokee County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Bourbon County was created by Kansas Territory on August 25, 1855, from McGee and Cherokee counties, and was fully organized on September 12, 1855. The county became part of the state of Kansas on January 29, 1861, and lost territory to the creation of Crawford County on August 3, 1867.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
