History
Formed in 1868 from Ellis County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Wallace County was created from non-county area on March 11, 1868, and named after W. H. L. Wallace. Initially not fully organized, Wallace County was attached to Ellis County for judicial purposes until 1881, when it was attached to Trego County instead. In 1879, Wallace gained territory from Gove, Sheridan, and Thomas counties, but lost most of it back in 1881 along with land that became Logan County. Wallace County became fully organized and independent on January 5, 1889.
