History

Founded in 1873

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Wichita County was created from Non-County Area 6 but was not fully organized at its establishment. Between 1881 and 1886, the county was attached to neighboring counties for judicial purposes: first to Ford County, then to Finney County, and then back to Finney County. Wichita County was fully organized and detached from Finney County on December 24, 1886.
