History

Formed in 1867 from Marion County, Hageman County and Hodgman County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hodgeman was created from Marion County on February 26, 1867, and was initially spelled "Hageman" in the creating law, though later laws adopted the "Hodgeman" spelling. The county was attached to Ford County in 1873 for judicial purposes, then to Pawnee County in 1874, and was fully organized and detached from Pawnee in 1879. Hodgeman gained territory from Lane and part of Gray counties in 1883, then lost territory to the creation of Garfield County in 1887.
