History

Formed in 1873 from Billings County and Norton County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Rawlins County was created from Non-County Area 6 on March 20, 1873, initially unorganized and attached to Billings County (now Norton County) for judicial purposes. In 1881, Rawlins County became fully organized after being attached to Decatur County for judicial purposes. The county was named after John Aaron Rawlins.
