History
Formed in 1860 from Riley County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Originally named Shirley when created by Kansas Territory in 1860 from Riley County, the county became part of Kansas when the state was formed in 1861. After being attached to Marshall and later Washington County for judicial and administrative purposes, Shirley County was fully organized in 1866 and renamed Cloud in 1867.
