History

Formed in 1855 from Shawnee County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Osage County was created on August 25, 1855, as Weller County from non-county area and initially attached to Shawnee County for civil and military purposes. The county was renamed Osage on February 11, 1859, fully organized, and detached from Shawnee County. Osage County became a county in the state of Kansas on January 29, 1861.
