History

Formed in 1873 from Ford County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Meade County was created from unorganized territory on March 20, 1873, but remained attached to Ford County for judicial purposes. The county was abolished in 1883 when all its territory was transferred to Ford, Seward, and the newly created Finney County. Meade was re-created on March 13, 1885, from territory taken from Finney, Ford, and Seward counties, and was fully organized by November 1885.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
