History

Formed in 1855 from Allen County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Wilson County was created by Kansas Territory on August 25, 1855, from non-county area and initially attached to Allen County for civil and military purposes. It remained attached to various counties for judicial purposes through the 1860s, gaining territory from Dorn (now Neosho), Woodson, and Allen. Wilson became fully organized and detached from Woodson County on September 24, 1864, after Kansas became a state in 1861. The county lost territory to the creation of Neosho, Montgomery, and Woodson counties between 1866 and 1868.
