History
Formed in 1867 from Marion County and Riley County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Ness County was created from Marion County and Non-County Area 2, which was attached to Riley County, though Ness was not fully organized at that time. For several years, Ness was attached to Ellis County for judicial purposes until it was fully organized and detached from Ellis on October 23, 1873. In 1881, Lane County was attached to Ness for judicial purposes, and Ness gained territory from Non-County Area 6 in 1873.
