History

Formed in 1873 from Ford County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Stevens County was created from Non-County Area 6 and initially attached to Ford County for judicial purposes. In 1883, Stevens County lost all its territory to Seward County and was eliminated. Stevens County was re-created from Seward County on February 20, 1886, with slightly different boundaries. Stevens County was fully organized in August 1886 after being attached to Finney County for judicial purposes.

Boundary changes from the Newberry Library, Atlas of Historical County Boundaries; the 5 that matter most are shown first.
