History

Founded in 1873

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Lane County was created from Non-County Area 6 in 1873 but was not fully organized at first. The county gained territory from Gove County in 1879 and from Buffalo County in 1881, though it lost land to Hodgeman County and to the creation of Finney County in 1883. Lane County was attached to Ness County for judicial purposes in 1881, then fully organized and detached from Ness in 1886.
