History
Formed in 1881 from Buffalo County and Foote County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Gray County was created on March 13, 1881 from parts of Buffalo County and all of Foote County, though it was not fully organized at the time. By February 22, 1883, Gray County lost all its territory to Ford and Hodgeman counties and to the newly created Finney County, and was eliminated. On March 23, 1887, Gray County was re-created from Finney, Ford, and Hodgeman counties with modified boundaries, initially attached to Ford County for judicial purposes. Gray County became fully organized on July 20, 1887, when it was detached from Ford County.
