History

Founded in 1893

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

County M, which became Woods County, was created in Oklahoma Territory from part of the Cherokee Outlet on September 16, 1893. When Oklahoma became a state on November 16, 1907, Woods County gained from Woodward County but lost territory to the creation of Alfalfa and Major counties.
