History

Formed in 1851 from Polk County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Kossuth County was created from Non-County Area 9 attached to Polk County in 1851, then attached to Boone County for administrative purposes in 1853. In 1855, Kossuth gained all of Bancroft County and the northern half of Humboldt County, and was detached from Boone and attached to Webster for election and judicial purposes. Kossuth was fully organized and detached from Webster in 1856, then lost territory to the re-creation of Humboldt County in 1857 and to the creation of Crocker County in 1870, before regaining Crocker when it was ruled unconstitutional in 1871.
