History

Formed in 1851 from Delaware County and Polk County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Franklin County was created in 1851 from parts of Delaware and Polk counties, though it was not initially organized or independently administered. For several years, Franklin County was attached to neighboring counties for administrative and judicial purposes: first to Chickasaw in 1853, then to Hardin in 1855. Franklin County became fully organized and independent in 1856.
