History

Formed in 1851 from Delaware County and Polk County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Hardin County was created on January 15, 1851 from parts of Delaware and Polk counties but was not initially organized or attached to any county. It was briefly attached to Marshall County in 1853 for administrative purposes, then fully organized and detached later that year. Franklin County was attached to Hardin in 1855 for election and judicial purposes, but was fully organized and detached in 1856.
