History
Formed in 1851 from Pottawattamie County and Polk County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Carroll County was created on January 15, 1851, from Pottawattamie County and Non-County Area 9, which was attached to Polk County. In its early years, Carroll County was attached to Shelby County for revenue, election, and judicial purposes starting in 1853, then transferred to Guthrie County in 1855. Carroll County became fully organized and detached from Guthrie County on August 17, 1855. The county was named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton.
