History
Formed in 1851 from Pottawattamie County and Mahaska County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Adair County was created from Pottawattamie County and land attached to Mahaska County, but initially remained unorganized and unattached. In March 1853, Adair was attached to Cass County for revenue, election, and judicial purposes, and in May 1854 it was fully organized and detached from Cass.
