History
Formed in 1851 from Polk County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sac County was created from Polk County on January 15, 1851, but remained unorganized and unattached for several years. Between 1853 and 1856, the county was temporarily attached to Woodbury County and then Greene County for revenue, election, and judicial purposes before being fully organized and detached from Greene County on April 7, 1856. From 1864 to 1870, Ida County was attached to Sac County for judicial purposes; Ida was detached when it became fully organized.
