History
Formed in 1837 from Dubuque County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Delaware County was created by Wisconsin Territory from Dubuque County on December 21, 1837, initially unorganized and attached to Dubuque for temporary purposes. It became a county in Iowa Territory on July 3, 1838, when Iowa Territory was created from Wisconsin Territory. Delaware County was fully organized and detached from Dubuque on February 8, 1844. In 1851, the county lost all attached unorganized territory to the creation of eleven new counties.
