History
Formed in 1851 from Pottawattamie County and Polk County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Crawford County was created in 1851 from Pottawattamie County and non-county area, but was not fully organized initially. In 1853, it was attached to Shelby County for revenue, election, and judicial purposes, then fully organized and detached in 1855. In 1865, Crawford County gained territory from Monona County.
