History
Formed in 1851 from Delaware County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Mitchell County was created in 1851 from Non-County Area and initially attached to Delaware County, but not fully organized. In 1853 it was attached to Chickasaw County for administrative purposes, then fully organized and detached in 1854. The county gained territory from Floyd County in 1855 and had Worth County attached to it for judicial purposes in 1857, before Worth was detached in 1858.
