History

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Davis County was created by Iowa Territory from Van Buren County in 1843, though it remained attached to Van Buren for judicial, revenue, and election purposes initially. The county was fully organized and detached from Van Buren in 1844, and became part of the state of Iowa when it was created from Iowa Territory on December 28, 1846.
