History
Formed in 1851 from Polk County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Ida County was created from Polk County on January 15, 1851, and named after Mount Ida. Initially not fully organized, it was attached to Woodbury County for revenue, election, and judicial purposes in 1853, then fully organized and detached in 1859. In 1864, Ida County was attached to Sac County for judicial purposes, and became fully independent again in 1870 when those judicial attachments were repealed.
