History
Formed in 1851 from Delaware County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Chickasaw County was created from Non-County Area 6 attached to Delaware, though it was not fully organized at that time. In 1853, the county was attached to Fayette for elections, revenue, and judicial purposes while serving as an administrative center for Floyd, Franklin, Howard, Mitchell, and Worth counties. Chickasaw was fully organized on September 12, 1853, and gradually released the other counties as they organized: Floyd in 1854, Mitchell in 1854, Howard and Worth to Floyd in 1855, and Franklin to Hardin in 1855.
