History
Formed in 1851 from Polk County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Pocahontas County was created from Polk County on January 15, 1851, but was not initially organized. It was attached to Boone County in 1853 for administrative and judicial purposes, then moved to Webster County in 1855 for election, judicial, and revenue purposes. The county was fully organized and detached from Webster County on May 11, 1859.
