History

Formed in 1857 from Brown County and Faribault County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Martin County was created on May 23, 1857, from parts of Brown and Faribault counties. The county was named after Morgan Lewis Martin. In the following years, Martin's boundaries changed as Jackson, Nobles, and Rock counties were attached and then detached for judicial purposes.
