History

Formed in 1851 from Polk County

An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.

Humboldt County was created on January 15, 1851, from Non-County Area 9 attached to Polk County, though it was not fully organized at that time. The county was temporarily attached to Boone County in 1853 for administrative and judicial purposes. Humboldt lost all its territory to Kossuth and Webster counties in 1855 and was eliminated, but was re-created in 1857 from those same counties, gaining and then losing territory to Webster through 1860.
