History
Formed in 1836 from Des Moines County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Henry County was created by Wisconsin Territory from Des Moines County in 1836. On January 18, 1838, Henry gained territory from Louisa County while losing land to the creation of Slaughter (now Washington County), Lee County, and Van Buren County. Henry became an Iowa Territory county on July 3, 1838, when Iowa Territory was created from Wisconsin Territory, and became an Iowa county on December 28, 1846, when the state of Iowa was created.
