History
Formed in 1803 from Montgomery County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Stewart County was created from Montgomery County in 1803 and named after Duncan Stewart. The county experienced several boundary adjustments over time, including the 1871 creation of Houston County from its territory, though it regained that land in 1909.
