History
Formed in 1857 from Hamilton County
An old deed may name a county that no longer exists, or a boundary that has since moved.
Sequatchie County was created from Hamilton County in 1857 and named after the Cherokee. The county's boundaries were adjusted several times over the following decades, gaining territory from Grundy County in 1858 and Marion County in 1893, while losing smaller areas to Hamilton County, Bledsoe County, and Van Buren County.
